The Renaissance, as it’s traditionally taught, was a period characterized by the flourishing of the arts in European society. Of all the definitions of the Renaissance, this is perhaps the most common. But how much do we know about it? This week I wanted to offer two interpretations of this historical era, one theory being more controversial than the other. The controversial opinion argues that the Renaissance never truly “happened,” at least not in the way that it has been taught in schools.
